LOS ANGELES, August 11, 2009 – The MoonScoop Group, one of the leading worldwide family entertainment companies, announced today that it has completed a global licensing and production deal with entrepreneur, reality TV star (MTV’s “Rob & Big” and “Fantasy Factory”) and skateboarding icon, Rob Dyrdek, for his action-oriented, semi autobiographical “Wild Grinders” toy line and entertainment brand. As part of the agreement, Moonscoop will co-create and produce a series of “Wild Grinders” animated shorts and viral videos, for distribution on multiple platforms, as well as an interactive online destination as the run up to the animated series, now in pre-production.
“Rob Dyrdek’s Wild Grinders” is a brand based in fun and humor, with an authentic take on skateboarding culture. It was developed from Dyrdek’s experiences as a boy who grew up skateboarding and living the skateboard culture. The Wild Grinders toy line appeared on an episode of Dyrdek’s hit MTV show “Fantasy Factory,” which highlights the skateboarder’s entrepreneurial activities. The action figures launched in 2009 at Wal-Mart with brisk sales and quickly became a highly-coveted item among fans. Moonscoop and Dyrdek are now developing plans to grow the brand across online, mobile and TV/video platforms, including appearances in future episodes of Dyrdek’s MTV series “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.”
“Moonscoop was the perfect choice to help me expand the Wild Grinders brand,” said Dyrdek. “They have incredible expertise in character and animated property development and I was impressed with their understanding of the world of new media. They have a clear focus on how we can grow Wild Grinders on all platforms and achieve the goals I set out to reach when I developed the brand.” “The team at Moonscoop truly understands our brand and the direction we want to take it,” said Jeremy Larner, head of JKL Worldwide and Dyrdek’s manager. “Their expertise in animation and licensing will help Wild Grinders branch out into areas we could only dream of in the beginning.”
“Rob Dyrdek is not only a brilliant showman and skateboarder, but also a great creator,” said Bill Schultz, co-CEO of Moonscoop, LLC. “His vision for these characters and this brand is the foundation for a truly authentic property which is not only timely in its appeal to a very valuable teen demographic, but really all fans of great timeless animated franchises. We’re proud to be associated with Rob and the Wild Grinders brand and look forward to creating some great content for the fans.”
“Rob’s personal involvement in the development of Wild Grinders makes it both exciting and absolutely authentic,” said Cynthia Money, President, Worldwide Consumer Products and Marketing for MoonScoop. “He’s developed characters that appeal to a wide variety of age groups, and the timing is great, as demand in the action sports category continues growing.”
